Facebook Hacked: What to Do to Recover Your Account and Protect Your Business

A hacked Facebook account can mean losing access to your personal profile, your business page, or even active ad campaigns. Attackers often change credentials, post scams, and use your reputation for phishing. Acting in order reduces damage.

Personal profile vs. business page

If only your profile was compromised but the page is still controlled by other admins, ask them to remove you temporarily until you recover. If the page was hacked, risk is higher: they can change roles, spend ad budget, and lock you out as admin.

Official recovery steps

  1. Visit facebook.com/hacked and follow Meta's assistant.
  2. Review Accounts Center from a secure device.
  3. If you have access to the recovery email, reset password and log out remote sessions.
  4. For pages, use «Trouble accessing a Page» in Help Center if you were removed as admin.
  5. Report unauthorized ads in Ads Manager if applicable.

What not to do

  • Don't share verification codes with anyone who messages you.
  • Don't install «Facebook recovery» apps outside official stores.
  • Don't reuse the same password on Meta and your recovery email.
The email linked to Facebook is the master key: if it falls, all connected Meta accounts fall with it.

Prevention for businesses

Assign multiple admins with least-privilege roles, enable two-factor authentication for everyone, and separate personal accounts from ad access when possible. Document who has access and review permissions quarterly.
